With more than $1.8 billion in Florida water projects on the line, the President’s veto of the Water Resources Development Act has been overturned!
It’s a move Larry Byrnes applauds as a major step forward in keeping Florida’s treasured waterways healthy, beautiful and safe.
“We cannot ignore human dependence on the water cycle. More than 99 percent of our water supply comes directly from rivers, lakes, and aquifers,” Byrnes said. “We must set priorities and update water policies to address 21st century problems.”
Meanwhile, Connie Mack has wavered in his support of WRDA. Just last month, he refused to join fellow Florida lawmakers in signing a bipartisan letter urging President Bush to reconsider his veto of this important bill.
Mack has a long history of skirting environmental issues. He’s voted several times in favor of big oil, and against legislation to fund renewable energy programs.
Larry Byrnes strongly believes in helping America’s innovators develop clean technology and alternative fuels.
“We must create a new Green Energy Economy(GEE) by creating new jobs using American innovation, entrepreneurship, and creativity,” Byrnes said. “We must set targets and timelines to reduce carbon emissions and imports of oil, increase the production of bio-fuels and renewable energy resources, and aggressively move forward with community-based ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ programs.”
Larry Byrnes understands protecting the environment is key when it comes to ensuring quality of life for all Floridians. He is happy to see WRDA on its way to becoming law, and looks forward to seeing its positive effects across the state.
